This website is the digital version of a catalogue constructed as part of Horn Ensembles in Australia: A History, Catalogue of National Repertoire, and Recommendations Towards Sustainable Communities (2022), a study submitted in fulfilment of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Musicology) at the University of Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium.

The Australian Horn Ensemble Catalogue is both a practical and archival resource that provides an insight into the unique and diverse contribution of Australian composers to the horn ensemble repertoire.

It includes works which satisfy the following criteria:

  1. The work must be scored for two or more horns. These include all horns traditionally played by modern horn players, such as historical horns and the Wagner tuba, or any combination thereof. Works containing auxiliary instrumentation such as percussion or optional tuba are also permitted if the additional instruments are deemed to perform a genuinely auxiliary role.
  2. The work must be an original composition for this instrumentation.
  3. The composer must identify as Australian.

This catalogue contains a composer profile for each composer, and a work profile for each work. Please note that not all the available categories of information may be available for each profile, as some data is included at the discretion of the represented composer.
